Marathi (Traditional Beekeeping)
Naming, product logo design, and packaging series for maráthi honey products
The Marathi region is a settlement on the island of Paros, known for its ancient marble quarries. These quarries were the source of perhaps the finest quality marble in the world, Lychnites. Lychnites is considered unique due to its transparency and the great depth to which the crystalline structure of the marble allows light to penetrate. Near the quarries, among the ancient marbles and dry stone walls that hold back the slopes, clay hives emerge skillfully built within the stone walls, testifying to the existence of an old apiary sheltered from the north wind and the strong sun. The place is overflowing with all kinds of wild herbs. Thyme, sage, oregano, cistus, St. John’s wort, wild honeysuckle, and sunflowers. There, in the footsteps of the old beekeepers, Maria Drakaki and Iosif Vasiliou placed their first hives. And nature generously offered them its gifts. Their bees collect the precious nectar from the island’s pure nature, producing an exceptional honey with an amber color and rich flavor.
The logo design draws inspiration from the folklore of the island of Paros, and the central key-visual of the packaging labels depicts the old clay hives used in the traditional beekeeping of the Aegean islands.
